The Lean Pantry Co., Stamford

by - October 02, 2017

Myself and three of my mummy friends were meeting for lunch after baby sensory and we decided to try the newly opened Lean Pantry Co. in Stamford (they've also got a place in Oakham). The Lean Pantry Co. serves food and drink which is free from wheat, gluten, dairy and refined sugar. I contacted them via Facebook the night before to ask if we could reserve a table with highchairs for the babies. I got a friendly response very quickly and they were more than happy to reserve us a space upstairs. I remembered the stairs were quite narrow when it used to be Javawocky so I asked what we could do with the prams. I was told there would be space for them downstairs or just outside the front door (which there was although it was a bit of a squeeze!).

When we arrived, I noticed there weren't enough highchairs set out for us so one of the waitresses had to bring up a couple more. The highchairs were wooden with a strap which threaded through the strap between the legs. They fit underneath the table well so I was able to tuck Millie in to try and avoid her losing too much food to the floor...which didn't work as she's going through that phase where she finds it hilarious to throw her food!

As we were upstairs, a waitress came up to take our order rather than us going down to order at the counter so that was really helpful. I have to say, I did find it hard to decide what I wanted as I am not used to really, really healthy eating and also have a nut allergy so there were a few things I had to avoid. Whilst we waited for our order, they brought us some free pancakes to try! I did like what I ordered but I am not really into 'free-from' (I blame the fact my parents own a bakery!). I actually felt that strange eating so healthily that I suggested we all go for crepes at Cafe au Chocolat afterwards!!! Oops.
Millie wondering what on earth wheat-loving Mummy will order!

The changing facilities were in the only toilet which is quite small but you wouldn't have the pram with you anyway as it's upstairs. There is a drop down changing table with safety strap and some free wipes which was nice to see.

I've given The Lean Pantry Co. Stamford an overall rating of 'average' because the premises is small (which can't be helped) therefore not very pram-friendly but the staff make you feel very welcome. I would suggest calling ahead to see if they'll reserve a table for you with a bit of room if you're coming here with children who need highchairs. I can see why this place is so popular as the food is tasty and not your typical 'free from' food.
