The Yard, Stamford.

The Yard is an indoor soft play centre in Stamford, not too far from Waitrose. Unfortunately, there are only a couple of car parking spaces so I often tie it in with a shopping visit and park elsewhere. Access into The Yard is a bit tricky with a tight entrance if you've got a stroller but the staff are very helpful and have rushed around to help me which is lovely and instantly makes you feel welcome. Admission prices here seem similar to other places I've visited with adults and under 6 month olds free, under 2s are £3 and 7 years and under pay £4.50.

The soft play equipment for older children is brilliant fun with slides, areas for climbing, giant balls, sit on trikes and Cozy Coupe cars. The area for children under 2 is quite small but has two baby bouncer chairs, a ball pit, toys, sit-on seesaw toys and a small plastic slide and tunnel. Although Millie loves playing in the under 2's area, the only things in there I would consider as 'soft' are the ball pit, the floor and the boundaries...not that it matters really. All of the equipment and toys are clean and clearly well looked after.

The seating at The Yard is mostly long tables but there is a smaller area which I often choose to go to with smaller tables. They have at least 16 Ikea highchairs...yes you read that correctly - 16! The food here is really lovely and they have made an effort to use local and ethical suppliers. I was pleased with the price as you get good quality and it's really tasty. A grilled cheese sandwich for an adult is around £4 and a sandwich, squash and 3 treats (all of which can be fruit if you choose) for the littlies is £4. They also do hot 'Cook' kids meals for £4 (no additives, no added salt and at least one portion of veg!). The coffee is Two Chimps Coffee - it's only complaint is that I'd like a bigger mug! If you want to try a Two Chimps gift box, click here.

In the toilet area, there are two changing units with soft changing mats and there are even some changing bags and wipes available if you've run out.

The Yard is a lovely soft play centre but it does get very busy. They often post on Facebook to let you know if it's full and it's definitely worth calling beforehand to see if they are really busy. I can see why it gets so busy (and hot!) - it's a shame there aren't more soft play centres around like this one. Please also check their website and Facebook page for information about their craft classes and party packages.
