Barnwell Country Park, near Oundle

by - August 14, 2018

Barnwell Country Park is located just outside of Oundle on Barnwell Road and has two fishing lakes, beautiful walks, a large fenced playground area, Kingfisher Cafe and a smaller playground area next to the cafe.

Please note, car park charges apply and these can be paid by coins or card (despite what it says on the Northamptonshire County Council website about being coins only). Prices as of Summer 2018 are as follows:
£3 for up to 4 hours
£5 for up to 12 hours.

Millie loved the fenced playground area as a lot of it was sandy and Millie loves nothing more than getting covered in sand! I liked this playground as there was plenty of equipment for all ages of children. I visited mid-week over the summer holidays (2018) and arrived around 10am when it was already pretty busy so can imagine it must get absolutely rammed sometimes. Below shows some pictures of various parts of the playground.

After we had a play in the park, and as it started to get even busier, we decided to go for a walk and took the pushchair friendly 'Lakeside Stroll', a 0.4km walk where we saw ducks (duck food can be bought for 30p a bag from the visitor centre), geese, swans and plenty of dogs. It was a beautiful walk with questions along the way to keep older children entertained.

Of course we then headed to the cafe for a drink and an ice cream! The Kingfisher cafe is open daily 10am-5pm and have free wifi, 3 wooden highchairs with straps and plenty of seating inside, outside the back of the cafe on a lovely decking area and also out the front of the cafe over-looking a smaller playground area. The Kingfisher cafe offer a children's meal deal of 5 different items for £4. We only had a cold drink and an ice cream so I really can't comment on the food. The cafe doesn't have toilets but the public toilets are nearby.

A drop down changing table can be found in the accessible toilet so it's big enough to take the pram in with you if you need to.

Barnwell Country Park have lots of events and regular activities for children (booking essential). You can find out more from their Facebook page by clicking here.

We had a really lovely visit to Barnwell Country Park. The only downside was that the cafe could have done with a few more highchairs for such a busy place and they didn't serve iced coffee which always makes me sad.
